Tusker Kandula
When Kandula was nine years old, the monarch of Thailand gifted the enormous tusker that now stands at the Kelani Temple. The government of Sri Lanka has made the decision to raise this young elephant under the care of the Nayaka Thero of the Kelani temple. Everyone in the temple has loved and cared for Kandula ever since.
At the age of 28, this mature tusker now takes part in the nation's most notable processions. In the historical Dalada, Kataragama, and Kelani Duruthu peraharas, he has been acknowledged as a significant tusker.Kandula has been taking part in the island's ancient and well-known processions for almost a decade. When he visits the Kelani temple to worship the thrividha Chaithya, he never fails to astound the pilgrims.
