What is this "elephant comb"?
Muddy spots caused by elephants roaming in the forests rubbing their trunks on trees and rocks are seen in many places in the forest.
We call such places as places where elephants are brushed. But there is a place where elephants are combed their heads and backs in Maduraoya National Park.
This place is on the left hand side near the road known as Morapana, which is about 3 km from the entrance of Maduraoya Park Headquarters.
In this place, there are two large Haveri banyan trees growing together and there is a hollow eight feet wide and nine feet high located between the two trees.
Elephants passing through this banyan hole have the ability to scratch the top of the elephant's head and back. As the elephants often engage in this hole, no banyan roots grow below that place.
This place will be known as the "Elephant Comb Tree" of the elephants.
